Day threefourfivesixseven....

So I guess its time to update huh? Sorry, finals week is kind of crazy. Where did we leave off on this cleanse adventure...

Day three: Was all fruits and veggies day...was kind of craving anything OTHER than that stuff. I had a lot to eat though from my previous shopping days, so it wasn't hard grabbing something. I think I had a protein shake that day too because I worked out.

Day four: Was the weirdest day of them all: bananas and milk...seriously? So in total I ate six bananas (I put peanut butter on half of them) and three glasses of milk. I was starving by night time. And then it hit me (as I was having a conversation with my roommates about this cleanse...and eating a banana): I'm not doing this to lose weight per say, I really am doing it for the cleanse part. So I wasn't going to starve myself over this, thats not healthy. If you want to lose weight, diet is obviously a huge part of it but so is exercise. So, with the help of Landon, I went and got some actual food. And it was healthy, if you ever want an all organic, AMAZINGLY delicious burrito go to Mountain West Burrito on State Street. Food doesn't usually blow my mind, but this was fantastic. And then we may or may not have gotten Coldstone's afterwards...I had been good for four days, it was time to splurge a little.

Day five: Beef and tomatoes. Again, random, but at least it was something new. I made a big thing of ground beef in a pan, put tomatoes in there to cook them up too (when tomatoes are cooked they have more nutrient value fyi) and there were my meals for the day. For dinner, Landon shared his stock of frozen steaks and cooked some up for us (they were delicious!). I ate green beans and tomatoes as a side. Probably the easiest day of them all, and I felt more alert thanks to the increased iron intake.

Day six: Beef and veggies. I don't think I've eaten that much meat in two days as I have for the past two months! I had lots of left overs from the previous beef day, and I cooked up some carrots to toss in there too. For dinner Landon made more steak for us, but he didn't have a problem with that at all...guys and their steak :) I had broccoli as a side and some noodles too. Then my wonderful home teachee grilled up a HUUUGE plate of veggies for me because she knew I was doin' this cleanse. She baked them in balsamic vinegar: all I can say is YUM. She also fed us some wonderful baked Alaskan and butterbeer. And I think baked alaskan in my new favorite dessert, hands down (if you want to check out her cooking blog click here, Sabina is an absolutely amazing cook!! I'm the luckiest visiting teacher ever.)

Day seven: Brown rice, veggies and fruit juice day. Fruit juice has a lot of added sugar in it, so I just ate the left over fruit I had. By today, I was kind of just done with the cleanse. Obviously I stuck to it for the most part, but for lunch I ate half a veggies wrap (which was delicious. Everything tastes better when you're not suppose to be eating it).

All in all: This was a good diet/cleanse/whatever you want to call it. The only day I was hungry was the bananas and milk day, that was terrible. My body feels good, which is what I wanted out of it. I kind of developed permanent eating habits, I definitely will be incorporating even more fruits and veggies into my diet. The only thing that bothered me about this was the lack of iron for the first few days (veggies give you some, but other non-meat sources weren't in the cleanse) and then the total calorie count for each day was really low, especially the fruit and veggie days. If you want to try this, I found that going to the grocery store each night to buy the stuff for the next day kept my fridge really organized. And searching the internet for fruit combos and veggie combos helped too. 90% of the time I stuck with the diet, but I don't believe in super restrictive eating because that can turn into an unhealthy eating behavior (no, I didn't develop an eating disorder because of this). So like the milk and bananas day, I ate everything perfectly until my body was craving for something with protein and legumes and veggies, so I wasn't going to ignore a healthy craving like that. And I don't regret eating that delicious burrito one bit.

You should be able to balance life with healthy meals and healthy choice, but satisfying a craving once in a while isn't going to ruin your life. If you want a donut for breakfast, go ahead! But eat something healthy the rest of the day and exercise. If you're just drained one day, skip the gym and take a nap, but just eat well all day. I'm not a professional when it comes to this stuff, but I've experienced for myself that eating and living this way makes me a lot happier and makes my body feel good too. Just love your body and do good things for it, don't beat yourself up when you look in the mirror or when you step on the scale. People love you just the way you are, so you should too.

And to top that off, I'm done with my first year at BYU in two days!!!
